Hana’s Sports Park
The town of Hana has a wonderful lighted sports park. It has a baseball diamond, space for soccer and tennis courts. We didn’t see any professional in the park, only children’s teams and obvious pickup games.

Hana Maui Botanical Gardens Hana, Maui, Hawaii 96713 800-248-7725 contact: JoLoyce Kaia
The botanical garden is filled with every kind of tropical plant imaginable. Where else can you sample the fruit right off the tree? The growth rate appears to be outstripping the tiny, earnest staff. Some activity needs to be done or the growth will overwhelm the gardens. There is another park apparently on the Big Island, also, but we did not see that one.

Queen Emma Summer Palace Daughters of Hawaii 2913 Pali Highway Honolulu, HI 96817 808-595-6291
The Summer Palace is high enough in elevation to be cool. Interesting forgotten piece of Hawaiian history. The grounds are beautiful, too. The staff was delightful, open and inviting. In the photo, children are permitted to play Queen Emma’s piano.

Waikiki Aquarium August 2001 U. Hawaii 2777 Kalalaua Ave Honolulu, HI 96815 808-923-9741
Waikiki Zoo The Waikiki may be the most relaxing aquarium on the Pacific. Blessed by a wide variety of enthralling animals, the aquarium is both relaxing and informative.
The Zoo is across the street from the Aquarium on Waikiki beach. As zoos go, it is fairly typical. It is the only Zoo we saw in Hawaii, so it serves as a vital resource for local residents. August 2001 |

Polynesian Cultural Center 1-800-367-7060
|
The Polynesian Cultural Center is a fine see-once experience. The center is operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon), and staffed by students attending school in Hawaii from all over the Pacific. The center includes discussions and demonstrations of customs. Of particular interest is the opportunity to try it yourself, whether it is dancing or games. |

USS Missouri USS Missouri Memorial Association Box 6339 Honolulu, Hi 96818 808-423-2263
|
Located in Pearl Harbor, the USS Missouri serves as a counterpoint to the Arizona Memorial. The Arizona serves as a reminder of the entry of the United States into World War II; the Missouri as a reminder of its end: the Japanese representatives signed the articles of surrender on the deck of the Missouri in 1945. |
