Manchac Magic Kayak Tour

Laplace, LA

2023-10

This was a wonderful tour of the bayou plants and animals from a water level. The kayaking was not difficult, so good for all ages, and the Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area is quintessential river basin swampland. We also saw 6 alligators swimming near us, and lazing on the shore! The guide was also helpful in providing restaurant recommendations while in the city.

Getting to the drop off point is a bit expensive if you do not have a car, but if you have a car you can show up and go without hassle.

New Orleans Sculpture Garden

2023-10

Many interesting sculptures by acclaimed artists. The singing oak was also a good attraction that was close to the sculpture garden and very meditative.

I’d like to see the facility provide more information for a self guided tour of the grounds.  It took some (valuable, tourist) time to get oriented.

New Orleans Zoo

New Orleans, LA

2023-10

There is some novelty at this zoo.  The nocturnal house was a unique area immersing the visitors in darkness to experience some of the nighttime critters being more active as opposed to sleeping the day away. We were lucky enough to see a sloth being fed in the darkness!

To help visitors get around, there should be more maps around the park. There was a QR at the entrance, but then only 2 other maps that we could find in the whole park. I’d rather be walking around looking up than looking at my phone.

New Orleans Insectarium

New Orleans, LA

2023-10

You get to eat crickets! Also a pretty stellar butterfly garden. The site does a great job of incorporating all the senses into the experience.

Can we get more information/docents on hand to provide the specific insights? There was a guy talking about silkworms, and it was great, but any additional topics would be a nice addition to the other information boards.

New Orleans Pharmacy Museum

New Orleans, LA

2023-10

A museum dedicated to pharmacy?  You won’t find this anywhere else!

5-in-1 Ghost Tour

New Orleans, LA

2023-10

Lots of interesting tales of grosssing murders and possible murders that happened all over the French quarter of NOLA.

It would be fun to incorporate more of the haunting/voodoo/ghosts into the tour as opposed to only describing the killings and stating there may be a restless ghost because of it. This is not a non-profit, but it was fun.

The fossil section with old ferns surrounded by living firms depicting the similarities of the species, and hardiness was very fun.

The live fish on the grounds were not in very well taken care of enclosures, and did not appear to be in the best health. Expanding these areas to provide better living conditions would also improve the viewing experience with them being more active.
